What is a air purifier and how does it compare to an air purifier that contains
a hepa filter?
As an introduction, an
air purifier is a piece of
equipment which removes contaminants from the air. Air purifiers are said to be
marketed as being particularly beneficial to allergy sufferers and asthmatics. A
good air purifier such as IQAir’s
Healthproplus
is an excellent choice for
reducing or eliminating second hand tobacco smoke. Commercial grade air
purifiers are manufactured as both a small stand-alone unit, and as larger units
which in most cases are made to accommodate three and five ton size air
conditioning units. The perfect 16 units can be affixed to an air handler unit
(AHU) or to an HVAC unit found in the medical, industrial, and commercial
industries.
Filter based purification traps airborne particles. Air is forced through a
filter and particles are physically captured by the filter. Hepa filters remove
at least 99.97% of 0.3-micrometer particles, and are usually more effective for
particles which are larger or slightly smaller. They are effective down to 0.01
micrometers in many cases, but become ineffective for particles smaller than
0.01 micrometer. In dusty environments, a HEPA filter may follow an easily
cleaned conventional filter (prefilter) which removes coarser impurities so that
the HEPA filter needs cleaning or
replacing less frequently. HEPA filters do not generate ozone or harmful
byproducts. An HVAC system that is rated
at MERV 14 or above are rated to remove airborne particles of 0.3 micrometers or
larger. A high efficiency MERV 14 filter has a capture rate of at least 75% for
particles between 0.3 to 1.0 micrometers. Although the capture rate of a MERV
filter is lower than that of a HEPA filter, a central air system can move
significantly more air in the same period of time.
IQair’s
HealthPro
Series features HyperHEPA filtration
technology for superior airborne particle removal.
IQAir's
HyperHEPA filtration technology is tested and certified to filter
ultra-fine pollution particles down to 0.003 microns in size with a guaranteed
minimum efficiency of over 99.5%. This is 100 times smaller than what is
achieved with ordinary air filtration technology and 10 times smaller than a
virus. Try to find another brand air purifier to do that job.
